Authorities have discovered what are suspected to be human remains following the suspension of the search for a missing swimmer on New South Wales’ Mid North Coast.

The missing individual, Astin Gerstl, a recent graduate from The King’s School in Sydney, encountered difficulties while swimming at Little Bay Beach near Coffs Harbour around 4:20 PM on Sunday.

A coordinated search effort by police and Surf Life Saving NSW took place over several days but was unable to locate the 18-year-old.

Earlier today, police responded to a call from a member of the public who reported finding what is presumed to be human remains on the beach.

The discovered remains have been sent for forensic analysis, and authorities will prepare a report for the coroner.

In response to the incident, The King’s School is extending support to Gerstl’s classmates and the broader school community during this difficult time.
