New Shows & Movies This Weekend
The Witcher — Season 4 (Netflix)

I’m only a few episodes into the fourth season of The Witcher, so my review isn’t going up just yet. I will post one, however, as I have so much to say already about the fantasy show. Liam Hemsworth has taken over for Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, and it’s just not the same. It didn’t even make it to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows chart! Critics have not been particularly enthusiastic, either. Still, this season has some fun new characters, including Laurence Fishburne’s barber-surgeon, Regis, and the excellent new villain, Leo Bonhart (Sharlto Copley). All eight episodes are out now.

In something of a surprise move, Netflix also released a prequel Witcher film alongside Season 4 of The Witcher. The new film follows the group known as The Rats who Ciri (Freya Allan) accompanies in the new season. We’re also introduced to a brand-new Witcher played by Dolph Lundgren. Nobody knew this was coming out and as of now, there are no reviews of the film (which is meant to be watched after Season 4).
King & Conqueror (Prime Video)

I was so excited when I first heard about the BBC’s King & Conqueror, which already released across the pond — where it got pretty lousy reviews. The historical drama stars Game of Thrones alumni, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William the Conqueror and Happy Valley’s James Norton as Harold Godwinson. It’s a fascinating time in history boasting a great cast. I’ll have to watch and see for myself, of course. The first episode comes out this Saturday, November 1.
Robin Hood (MGM+)
One does not merely walk to Sherwood Forest. Sean Bean takes a villainous turn in MGM’s new Robin Hood series. I couldn’t think of a better actor to play the part of Sheriff of Nottingham (other than Alan Rickman, who completely stole every scene in Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves). The show appears to be focusing in on the conflict between Saxons and Normans, so in some ways it could be viewed as a sequel to King & Conqueror. The first episode comes out this Sunday and I’m very curious to see if it will be any good.
I Love LA (HBO Max)
New episodes of HBO’s comedy series I Love LA land on Sundays, so you can watch those alongside new episodes of The Chair Company. I admit, this doesn’t look like my cup of tea, but if you’re interested in a story about friends reuniting after time apart rather than fantasy monsters and Medieval warfare, this might be just the ticket. The show stars Josh Hutcherson, Odessa A’zion, True Whitaker, and Jordan Firstman.
Stitch Head (In Theaters)

Something of a modern take on Frankenstein, Stitch Head is about a boy stitched together from spare parts who is awoken in a strange castle by a Mad Professor who tasks him with protecting his other creations from the nearby villagers. It looks cute.
Bonus Recommendations
Fans of Netflix’s excellent series Boots should check out this movie for more military boot camp drama. And one of Kevin Costner’s best films is also one of his earliest, and it’s seen something of a comeback on streaming.
Everything Streaming Weekly
It’s the end of the road for at least one popular show this week, but there’s still plenty to keep you occupied after you’re done with trick-or-treaters. Prime Video’s Gen V wrapped up and I found myself really enjoying it by the end. I definitely think it’s surpassed The Boys in terms of storytelling and the likability of the characters. In any case, here’s what’s streaming weekly.
IT: Welcome To Derry (HBO Max)

Stephen King’s famous novel has been adapted many times, but this is the first time in decades it’s been adapted for the small screen. IT: Welcome to Derry serves as a prequel series for the recent movies with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise the murderous, evil clown. Normally, new episodes will stream on Sundays but this week’s episode is out early to celebrate Halloween. Makes sense!
The Chair Company (HBO Max)

Tim Robinson stars in this quirky comedy/conspiracy thriller about Ronald Trosper, a mid-level executive at a mall company who finds himself investigating a mysterious chair company after he sists on one of their chairs and it breaks, causing him to crash to the floor in an embarrassing public incident that completely upends his entire world. It’s a very peculiar show, but genuinely hilarious and really unlike anything else out there. The fourth episode of The Chair Company comes out on Sunday.
Slow Horses — Season 5 (Apple TV+)

Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and the rest of the Slough House band of misfits had another wild ride this season, but the Season 5 finale dropped earlier this week and now we’ll all have to wait for Season 6. Fortunately, the wait shouldn’t be too long since they filmed the seasons back-to-back.
The Lowdown — Season 1 (FX/Hulu)
Reservation Dogs director, Sterlin Harjo, is back with this offbeat crime dramedy. Ethan Hawke stars as citizen journalist and “truthstorian” Lee Raybon as he goes toe-to-toe with local corrupt businessmen and white supremacists, seeking truth and justice and maybe just a bit of glory on the way. New episodes drop on Tuesdays. Read my review here.
Only Murders In The Building — Season 5 (Hulu)
Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders In The Building wrapped up its fifth season with some surprising revelations. Not so much about who the killer was, but who the next victim is for Season 6. I really disliked this season, and thought the finale was quite bad compared to every other season finale in this usually great mystery series. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are normally so much fun together, but everything really fell flat. C’est la vie!

Maigret follows Parisian Chief Inspector Jules Maigret (Benjamin Wainwright) as he investigates crimes in Paris, France. The show, based on the popular Maigret detective novels by Georges Simenon, airs on PBS/Masterpiece Sunday evenings.
Abbott Elementary — Season 5 (Hulu)

The popular mockumentary style series Abbott Elementary, follows teachers and staff at a Philadelphia public school as they navigate the pitfalls of education and workplace drama. New episodes of Season 5 land on Hulu every Wednesday.
Billy The Kid — Season 3 (MGM+)

This Western drama from Michael Hirst, the creator of Vikings, is in its third and final season on MGM+. Billy The Kid follows the infamous gunslinger’s misadventures, with Tom Blyth saddling up as the titular hero. New episodes land on Sundays.
Tulsa King — Season 3 (Paramount+)

Sylvester Stallone stars in this Taylor Sheridan production about a mobster sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he begins to form his own crew. Samuel L. Jackson joined the cast in Season 3 and is set to star in a spinoff, NOLA King, which is slated to premiere in 2026. New episodes of Tulsa King drop Sundays.
