Kingdom Hearts Voice Actor Pays Tribute to Hayden Panettiere After Tragic Loss

Hayden Panettiere’s work across film, television and video games continues to draw renewed attention from fans, from her memorable turns in Remember the Titans, Heroes and Nashville to her role in Square Enix’s beloved video game series, Kingdom Hearts. For many players, her performance as Kairi remains a defining part of the franchise’s early years.

Panettiere voiced Kairi in the original Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2, helping shape one of the series’ most recognizable characters. Alyson Stoner later stepped into the role at different points in the franchise before Panettiere returned, and Stoner went on to voice Kairi in Kingdom Hearts 3 in 2019. With Kingdom Hearts 4 generating fresh interest among fans, Kairi’s future in the series remains a major topic of conversation, though any casting details have yet to be addressed publicly.

The connection between Panettiere, Stoner and the wider Kingdom Hearts community has long been meaningful to fans who grew up with the games and followed the actors behind their favorite characters.

Stoner has also spoken publicly about working with both Hayden Panettiere and Panettiere’s brother, Jansen, who died in 2023 from a heart condition. For Kingdom Hearts fans, those shared ties have added another emotional layer to the legacy of Kairi and the performers who have brought her to life over the years.

“Sending so much love to Hayden’s family. I’ll be thinking of Hayden and the legacy that she has left, and sending lots of love to the Kingdom Hearts community too, and how we’re sharing in this loss.”

Kingdom Hearts wasn’t Panettiere’s only foray into gaming, as she memorably played Samantha in the boundry-pushing, movie-like horror game Until Dawn alongside Rami Malek, Brett Dalton, Jordan Fisher and Peter Stormare. A sequel will be released in 2027. The game was adapted into a movie in 2025 that did not feature Panettiere.

Panettiere’s loss is being felt deeply across Hollywood, but she also had a role in a formative game for many players. The Kingdom Hearts series has sold 39 million copies by last count, and that will dramatically increase when the fourth game is out. Her impact is felt across all fields of entertainment, movies, TV and video games, and it’s a tragic situation that all her fans are mourning.
