Markiplier’s ‘Iron Lung’ Gets A Streaming Release Date, With A Catch

Although I didn’t make it to the theater to support my local YouTuber this time around (it’s quite remarkable how many YouTubers have ventured into horror filmmaking), I’m eager to watch Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach’s Iron Lung. The good news is we now have a streaming release date to anticipate.

When is the Iron Lung streaming release date?

The streaming debut of Iron Lung is slated for May 31, 2026. However, there’s a twist—it’s exclusively available on one platform, which is rather unconventional. You might be able to guess which one.

“It’s releasing exclusively on YouTube Movies,” Markiplier announced. “I thought it was logical since you guys are already here. They were the ones willing to engage with me, and honestly, I doubt many other companies would have considered giving me this opportunity.”

This decision to restrict the PVOD (paid video on demand) release to a single platform is unusual, especially since this means fans won’t find it on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, or other services. From what I gather, the cost of releasing across multiple platforms is minimal compared to the potential earnings. Perhaps Markiplier’s loyalty to YouTube runs deep, as he suggests, and this allegiance will likely resonate well with his highly engaged fanbase.

Iron Lung turned out to be a significant success for the YouTuber, generating $50 million on a modest budget of $4-5 million, despite its limited theatrical release. While it garnered a “decent” 62% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it shone with an impressive 87% “verified hot” audience score, captivating both his dedicated followers and newcomers.

Markiplier joins a growing trend of YouTubers delving into horror cinema, alongside projects like Talk to Me, the upcoming Backrooms, and Curry Barker’s viral sensation Obsession, known for his comedic skits and short films. However, Markiplier stands out as the most prominent YouTuber to embark on such a venture, reaping substantial rewards for his efforts.

There are no plans for an Iron Lung sequel, and Markiplier says that he will take a break for a while, at least a year, before heading back to do another film. He indicates that, unlike Iron Lung, he will not star in his next film. Iron Lung is as good a start as he could hope for, and everyone will be curious to see what he does next.
