Authorities stated that an argument between a man, a woman, and an assailant escalated when the suspect brandished a sharp object, resulting in the stabbing of both victims.

The woman, aged 37, sustained a puncture wound to her chest and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. She is currently in fair condition, police confirmed.

A 24-year-old man also suffered a puncture wound, this one to his back. He was similarly transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition is also deemed fair.

No arrests have been made yet, and detectives from Area One are actively investigating the case.

This latest act of violence comes as the CTA is facing federal pressure to improve safety

The Federal Transit Authority rejected the CTA’s initial safety plan saying it didn’t go far enough to protect riders.

Federal transit officials are ordering the CTA to submit a new plan or risk losing federal funding.
