The U.S. Army is incentivizing the public with a substantial reward to catch two individuals involved in the theft of drones from a military base, amid growing concerns of a potential Iranian drone attack on American territory.
The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division has announced a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the capture of those responsible for the theft at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, last November.
The drones went missing between November 21 and 24, though officials have yet to disclose when the absence was first noticed.
The stolen equipment includes Skydio X10D systems, which are agile, long-range quadcopters designed for aerial surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
Equipped with artificial intelligence for obstacle avoidance, these drones can also connect to 5G networks, enabling them to maintain a virtually limitless signal range, as detailed on the Skydio website.
According to the ABJ Drone Academy, each of these drones is valued at nearly $30,000.
Army investigators released images of a pair of suspects wearing gloves, light jackets, and winter hats. One wore a mask.
Officials also released images of two suspicious vehicles: a four-door sedan and a pickup truck.
