Anaheim, California news: 8 Anaheim High School running team members struck by vehicle in possible DUI crash

ANAHEIM, Calif. — In a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon, eight members of a high school running team were injured when a vehicle struck them at a street intersection in Southern California, authorities reported.

The Anaheim Police Department stated that the students from Anaheim High School were standing at the intersection when a car veered off the road and collided with them just before 3 p.m.

The injured teenagers, aged between 16 and 17, included three individuals who, along with the 27-year-old driver, needed immediate medical attention. All were transported to the hospital, though their conditions remain undisclosed at this time.

Officials are investigating the incident as a potential DUI case, and the driver has been taken into custody.

A coach accompanying the students witnessed the crash as he approached the intersection. Another coach informed Eyewitness News that one of the injured students is in critical condition.

School resource officers promptly arrived at the scene in the aftermath of the accident.

No further details were immediately known.
