Thursday is upon us and with it another Wordle to solve!

The viral word-puzzle sensation continues to be a great unifier of people in a time of division and rancor. Anyone with any love of language or puzzles, who likes to solve problems, and who enjoys sharing their successes and failures, can hop in regardless of race, creed or nationality. It’s a bright spot—however small—in a dark time.

I’ve been playing Wordle pretty much every day this year and some of the words have been super hard while others have been super easy. Sometimes you just succumb to bad fortune, or get lucky with a once-in-a-lifetime guess.

Whatever the case, I’m here to help with this guide. Check out the links below and then scroll down for the hint and the day’s solution.

An Introduction to Wordle

  • For those new to the game, read this Wordle primer before you start playing and learn about how this fad got started.
  • Then, if you want some advanced tactics to get those low guess answers, you can read the Wordle Tips and Tricks guide here.

Today’s Wordle #292 Answer & Hint

Careful, dearest reader, for ahead there be spoilers!

First, however, there be a hint:

A raid into enemy territory; an attack or incursion.

And the answer is . . . .

Foray!

This was a tricky one. It took me five, as you can see. Between guess #4 and guess #5 I did a lot of brainstorming, trying out different letter combinations, think about what might follow an ‘A’ for the fifth and final letter.

Blade ended up being a pretty lousy guess, getting me just an ‘A’ in yellow. Satin was even worse, since I still just had that yellow ‘A’.

I guessed Momma simply because yesterday’s word was still in my head and that, at least, got me the green ‘O.’ Guess four finally locked down the ‘A’ and introduced the yellow ‘Y.’

But even still, I was totally stuck for a long time before coming up with Foray for the win. It’s a word I genuinely like but not one I hear very often. It basically describes a group of fighters or bandits making an incursion into enemy territory—a raid, basically. My hint today was quite literally just the definition of a foray.

In any case, that’s all folks. Thanks for reading and hang in there—we’re nearly to Friday and then the glorious weekend!
