Sofia Vergara posts about 'narcissistic' men after ex's allegations

Sofia Vergara has appeared to respond after her former husband, Joe Manganiello, made a series of startling claims about their marriage.

On Friday, the 54-year-old actress reshared an Instagram Stories graphic criticizing “narcissistic” men.

Alongside the post, she wrote: “Remember, kids, when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it and nothing will [ever] be enough, and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy.”

The comparison between a “good man” and a “narcissistic man” was first shared by the Modern Family star’s 35-year-old son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara. Her post came days after Manganiello, 49, alleged that Vergara “refused to hug” him while he was battling an autoimmune disease that left him suicidal.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Vergara for comment.

Manganiello and Vergara ended their marriage in July 2023 after seven years together. The former couple have since offered conflicting accounts of whether disagreements about having children contributed to their divorce.

The graphic reposted by Vergara listed gaslighting, lying and shifting blame among the behaviors associated with narcissistic men.

It also described narcissists as “grandiose” and “self-serving,” while accusing them of playing the victim and making excuses.

Manganiello details the breakdown of his marriage to Vergara in his forthcoming memoir, Bloodlines, which is scheduled for release on October 13.

He claims their relationship became “devoid of any emotionality whatsoever” as his illness worsened, ultimately resulting in a “major organ amputation.”

In an excerpt obtained by People, the actor and author said his health began deteriorating soon after the couple’s 2015 wedding.

Manganiello wrote that he endured “excruciating abdominal pain that left him unable to walk as his digestive tract ulcerated,” along with fevers, blistering rashes, headaches, fatigue and rectal bleeding.

His condition caused him to lose 60 pounds and undergo emergency surgery in 2016, during which part of his intestines was removed. He was subsequently dependent on an ostomy bag.

He said medication commonly prescribed for Crohn’s disease and colitis failed to control his pain, forcing him to use hydrocodone pills, fentanyl patches and marijuana despite having been sober for 13 years.

As he sought medical treatment, Manganiello also alleged that Vergara “refused to hug him even when he begged.”

Additionally, the actor refuted Vergara’s January 2024 statement to the Spanish publication El País that she and Manganiello called it quits because he wanted kids and she did not.

He said his illness led him to giving up starting a family with Vergara after failed IVF attempts, which led them to consider egg donors, with the star saying he ‘didn’t want to die and leave Vergara with a child who wasn’t biologically hers.’

Vergara announced her divorce from Manganiello in July 2023.

The Colombian-bred beauty told El País months later: ‘My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom.’

She explained, ‘I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.’

Mentioning her son Manolo from her first marriage to high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, she noted, ‘I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.’

Vergara and Manganiello announced their divorce in a joint statement shared with Page Six more than three years ago.

They said: ‘We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.’

Only two days after announcing their split, the True Blood actor filed for divorce and listed their date of separation as July 2.

The reason for the end of their marriage was cited as ‘irreconcilable differences.’

Manganiello is now engaged to actress Caitlin O’Connor, 37.
