As the NBA season prepares to tip off in just a few days, Russell Westbrook, the prolific guard known for his triple-double prowess, has finally secured a team for his 18th season. After spending the summer as a free agent, Westbrook has inked a new deal with the Sacramento Kings.
Following months of discussions, the Kings have agreed to bring Westbrook on board with a one-year contract at the veterans’ minimum salary, valued at $3.6 million for the 2025-26 season. While this contract is modest compared to some of the hefty deals Westbrook has enjoyed in the past, it marks a significant milestone by pushing his career earnings past the $350 million mark.
According to figures from Sporting News and Basketball Reference, Westbrook’s earnings to date stand at $348,234,946. This new deal with the Kings elevates his total career earnings to over $350 million, a notable achievement in his illustrious career.

Westbrook’s career highlights include nine All-Star selections and the coveted MVP award for the 2016-17 season while playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Following Kevin Durant’s departure to the Golden State Warriors, Westbrook embraced his role as the franchise cornerstone, signing a five-year, $205 million contract extension with the Thunder.
However, his tenure under that contract in Oklahoma City was short-lived, as he played only one season before being traded to the Houston Rockets in the summer of 2019. This blockbuster trade also involved fellow star Chris Paul, marking a significant shift in Westbrook’s career trajectory.
Except he ultimately only played one season in Oklahoma City under that new contract, which began with the 2018-19 season. The Thunder traded Westbrook to the Houston Rockets during the summer of 2019 in a deal that involved future Hall of Famer Chris Paul.
Since then, Westbrook has bounced around several teams, including the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Denver Nuggets. The Kings will be the seventh team he suits up for; he’s also been traded to the Utah Jazz twice, but has never played a game for them.
At this stage of his career, Westbrook is no longer the triple-double machine he once was, though he can still be a productive player. He’s finished in the top 10 in Sixth Man of the Year voting in each of the past three seasons. He’ll slot into a similar bench and mentor role with the Kings. And he’ll add to his impressive career totals. He and LeBron James are the only two players to record at least 25,000 points, 8,000 rebounds, and 8,000 assists. If Westbrook notches 75 assists this season, he’ll hit 10,000 for his career. He’d be only the eighth player in NBA history to pull off that feat.
Westbrook’s physical peak may be behind him. But he’s still got the same drive and effort that has served him well since entering the league. And that’s helped him reach another lucrative milestone in a career full of impressive accomplishments.
