One of the victims told how Sophia lied to them, claiming her mother had died. She needed more than $4000 for her funeral expenses. However, it was eventually revealed that the entire tale was fraudulent, and Sophia had been duping others in the same way.
The anonymous victim reported that they encountered Sophia on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California, and casually chatted about their Somali heritage.
On the other hand, Sophia later claimed that she had been abandoned by her companions and was trapped there with no way to get home. Out of pity, the user gave more than $1000 to assist her in paying for her trip ticket.
Later, she conned them out of another $4000 in the guise of borrowing for her mother’s burial.
