Callum Irwin, a talented chef from Northern Ireland, is making waves as a contestant on the 2026 series of Great British Menu. At just 27, he is carving out a name for himself as the Sous Chef at The Rabbit Hotel in Templepatrick. Beyond his role there, he is also the entrepreneurial mind behind Cooked by Callum, a thriving private dining venture.
Through Cooked by Callum, Irwin has catered to an array of prestigious events and served numerous notable figures across various industries such as sports and business. His cooking philosophy is deeply rooted in Northern Irish traditions, with a unique flair and meticulous technique honed through Michelin training.
Irwin’s culinary journey began at Ulster University, where he graduated with first-class honours in Culinary Arts Management. His academic excellence earned him a scholarship to Hong Kong, with celebrated chef Ken Hom as an ambassador. While still a student, he clinched the title of Féile MasterChef and won a competition commemorating the 25th anniversary of Heston Blumenthal’s iconic three-Michelin-starred restaurant, The Fat Duck.
During his studies, Callum joined the team at Belfast’s acclaimed Michelin-starred Muddlers Club, playing a part in its journey to earning its first Michelin star. His impressive résumé also includes stints at other esteemed eateries like Edo, where he worked alongside chefs Lottie McKee and Matt Jordan.
In 2025, Callum showcased his culinary prowess as a private chef at a high-profile hospitality event during The Open Championship at Royal Portrush, impressing elite guests with his culinary skills. His achievements have earned him features in “Northern Ireland on a Plate” and the Ballymena Chamber Award for Best Young Person in Business. Additionally, he serves as an ambassador for the Springboard’s FutureChef programme, inspiring the next generation of culinary talent.

Callum Irwin is competing in Series 21 of Great British Menu. He is representing Northern Ireland on the cooking show, alongside Lawrence Barrow, Head Chef at Hearth and Tine; Kristin Reagon, Head Chef at Lasair at Finn Lough; and Marion Lancial, Head Chef at Le Cheval Noir at The Dark Horse. Callum’s menu showcases his creativity and some of the stars from the Northern Ireland film scene.
