Anthony Jones, an acclaimed American chef, has made waves as a contestant on the 2026 season of Top Chef. Holding the esteemed position of executive chef at Marcus DC, Anthony’s culinary prowess has earned him recognition as a James Beard Award semifinalist for Emerging Chef. His journey through the competitive culinary world also saw him grace the screens of Food Network’s “Chopped” in 2022.
Growing up in Sunderland, Maryland, Anthony’s passion for the culinary arts took root during his middle school years. After honing his skills and knowledge at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina, he ventured to Washington, D.C. Here, his talent quickly propelled him upward, culminating in the role of Chef de Cuisine at the renowned Restaurant Eve, under the mentorship of Cathal Armstrong.
Anthony’s career took a significant turn when he joined forces with Marcus Samuelsson as the Executive Sous Chef for the Red Rooster Overtown opening team in Miami. This venture garnered them a Michelin Bib Gourmand accolade. Returning to Washington, D.C., Anthony helmed the award-winning Dirty Habit DC for two years before launching Marcus DC as the Executive Chef. The Washington Post lauded Marcus DC as one of the city’s top five restaurants, while Eater DC crowned Anthony as the Rising Chef of the Year in 2025.
At Marcus DC, Anthony presents a rich culinary narrative of the Black diaspora. His signature creation, Mel’s Crab Rice, celebrates his roots along the Chesapeake Bay, paying tribute to his childhood and his family’s beloved local crab shack. The Washington Post recognized this dish as one of the city’s finest offerings.
Beyond the restaurant scene, Anthony participated in the inaugural Roots to Glory Diaspora Tour, showcasing his culinary style that seamlessly blends African and Latin flavors, while emphasizing the importance of local ingredients.

Marcus DC executive chef Anthony Jones is competing in season 23 of Top Chef on Bravo. He will be vying for the title in North Carolina, alongside fellow DC-area chef Jonathan Dearden, corporate chef at KNEAD Hospitality + Design. Anthony has been watching Top Chef since season 1, when Harold Dieterle won the competition.
“It’s always been something that I watched, especially when I went to culinary school,” Anthony told Washingtonian. “It was a nice challenge for me. It’s a very serious competition. It’s nothing that we normally handle on a regular basis. There are elements of course that correlate with regular restaurant life, but Top Chef takes it even further.”
