Justin Tootla Biography – Justin Tootla Wiki

Justin Tootla, an acclaimed American chef, has captured the culinary world’s attention as a contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef 2026. Raised near Detroit, Tootla’s early years were steeped in the rich traditions of Indian cuisine, thanks to the influence of his father and aunts. Their kitchen became his classroom, where he eagerly absorbed the secrets of their culinary heritage.

Tootla’s educational journey initially took a different path, earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. However, after several years crisscrossing the globe as an outdoor instructor, he found his true calling in the culinary arts. This passion led him to the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in New York. It was here that he not only honed his skills but also met his life partner, Jennifer Lee Jackson.

Upon completing his studies, Tootla embarked on a transformative six-month externship at the renowned three-star Michelin restaurant Le Bernardin. This experience set the stage for a decade-long culinary adventure across America. His journey included notable stints at Restaurant Kelly Liken in Colorado, working with “Top Chef” finalist Kelly Liken, and at Eva in Los Angeles. Eventually, he returned to the Midwest, stepping into his first Executive Chef role at Thank You Chinese and Lost Lake.

In 2017, together with Jennifer, Tootla launched Voyager, a seafood-centric eatery that quickly earned accolades from Food & Wine, Esquire, Eater, and Thrillist as one of the Best New Restaurants. In 2020, they opened Bunny Bunny, a venue that cleverly melded Justin’s Indian roots with Jennifer’s Southern influences. Despite pandemic challenges, the establishment received widespread acclaim for its innovative approach.

The duo’s talent was recognized in 2021 when they were named among the Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Food Fighters. Recently, they concluded their involvement with a notable culinary endeavor, focusing on sustainable farm-to-table menus. Now, the couple is on a journey of exploration and consultancy, with dreams of reigniting the Bunny Bunny magic.
