Orry Shand, a distinguished Scottish chef, shines brightly in the culinary world as the owner of Falls by Orry Shand, a prestigious fine dining establishment nestled in the picturesque Royal Deeside, Banchory. His culinary journey, marked by a stint as Executive Chef at the renowned Scottish catering company Entier Ltd, has now led him to the spotlight of the Great British Menu 2026, airing on BBC Two and available on BBC iPlayer.
Originating from Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Orry embarked on his culinary adventure at the tender age of 14. His passion and dedication took him to Edinburgh, where he refined his skills at the illustrious Number One Restaurant in The Balmoral Hotel, which boasted a Michelin star at the time. Orry’s quest for excellence continued at the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, where he further honed his craft.
Upon his return to Aberdeen, Orry was instrumental in the launch of The Chester Hotel. His career trajectory took a significant leap in 2017 when he joined Entier Ltd, one of Scotland’s leading independent catering companies. As Executive Chef, Orry became known for his precise, creative, and seasonal approach to cooking. He oversaw a production and retail kitchen, catered private dining events, and played a pivotal role in mentoring apprentice chefs.

Orry’s exceptional talent has earned him several prestigious accolades, including the title of Scottish Chef of the Year in 2019 and National Chef of the Year for 2024–25, awarded by The Craft Guild of Chefs in London. Furthermore, he proudly represented Scotland on the global stage at the 2024 IKA Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart, Germany.
Reflecting on his achievements, Orry expressed, “Being recognized as the Scottish Chef of the Year from 2019 to 2021 was a great honor. It not only highlighted my dedication to the culinary arts but also acknowledged the hard work, creativity, and commitment I bring to the kitchen.”
Orry further shared his pride in managing the Scottish team at the IKA Culinary Olympics, where they impressively secured two silver medals. “Competing at the Culinary Olympics is a remarkable experience that demands the highest level of skill, innovation, and precision. I am extremely proud of everything that Team Scotland accomplished,” he noted.
