Her petite stature and unusual nasal accent made her stand out. Her down-to-earth charm, strong work ethic, and naivety won her a lot of attention and love.

Reggie was widely projected to win Big Brother from the beginning, and he did it in the end with 72 percent of the vote, the greatest margin in a Big Brother Finale to date. She is the first female winner of the series for Australia.

Reggie was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye illness, just a year after her Big Brother season ended.

That eye condition made her legally blind. She said that she had lost her peripheral vision and got like only 10 degrees of central vision left to the Daily Edition in 2016.

Nowadays, she has to use a cane to find her way to the city. But on a positive note, in 2020, after long appointments of surgery and treatment, she is said to have gained some light back.

Not only that, she had faced several downfalls after she won the show, which included being scammed $40,000 and having a heart stroke. Later, it was revealed that Reggie had a hole in her heart, causing her all the heart problems.

Reggie Bird Kids: Meet Her Children

Reggie Bird has two lovely kids named Mia and Lucas from her second marriage.

But unfortunately, Lucas, her youngest son, is suffering from cystic fibrosis. He is just 12 years old.

Reggie and her second husband, Dale Sorensen, welcomed their first child, Mia, 14 years old, four years after Big Brother. The couple had Lucas three years later.

Lucas’ mother previously told the media that Lucas’ condition necessitates daily physiotherapy and medicine to aid in his digestion and the breakdown of mucus in his lungs. He is given only 37 years to live, and his treatment costs a lot of money.

Reggie mobilized her Instagram followers earlier this year to sign a petition to get a new cystic fibrosis drug approved under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for sufferers aged 12 and up (PBS).

What Happened To The Big Brother winner Reggie Bird Son?

Reggie Bird has opened up about her son’s debilitating health condition.

The 2003 Big Brother winner spoke to WHO’s celebrity podcast, Who Are You, about her nine-year-old son, who has cystic fibrosis.

“It’s mentally draining,” the former fish and chip shop owner said.

“At the moment he’s saying, ‘Mummy, I don’t want to live. I don’t want to live with cystic fibrosis, I don’t want to be here.’

“A little nine-year-old saying they don’t want to live … it’s not good.”

According to Cystic Fibrosis Australia, the condition “primarily affects the lungs and digestive system because of a malfunction in the exocrine system that’s responsible for producing saliva, sweat, tears and mucus”.

“People with CF develop an abnormal amount of excessively thick and sticky mucus within the lungs, airways and the digestive system.”

There’s currently no cure for the condition and Reggie told Who Are You she doubts they’ll find one anytime soon.

“I have to give him physiotherapy every day — I just hope one day there will be a cure but at the moment it’s not looking like there will be,” she said.
