Suzanne Rogers, cherished by fans for her portrayal of Maggie Horton on “Days of Our Lives” for more than 50 years, remains very private about her life away from the cameras. While she embodies the role of a family leader in the fictional town of Salem, her real-life family is quite intimate, revolving mainly around her past marriage to fellow actor Sam Groom.
Recently, the 82-year-old actress bravely opened up about a major health hurdle she encountered and successfully overcame during the past summer.
Rogers was once married to Sam Groom, an actor known for his roles in “The Road West” and “The Andromeda Strain.” They wed in 1980, but their marriage was short-lived, ending in divorce two years later, in 1982.
The marriage did not result in any children, and Rogers has consistently chosen to keep her personal life away from the limelight throughout her extensive career.
A Courageous Health Update and Positive Prognosis
Her health scare began when she sensed something was amiss and decided to undergo medical testing. Following treatment, which concluded on July 31, 2025, she expressed feeling “really good” and was eager to return to work. Her motivation to get back on set was driven not by her health ordeal but by her dedication to her craft.
The producers of the show have been extremely supportive, emphasizing that her health is their top priority and reassuring her that her role as Maggie Horton is secure. They affirmed, “Maggie and Suzanne are vital to the show’s legacy, ongoing stories, and, with our renewal, the future! Neither are going anywhere.”

The show’s producers fully supported her, assuring her that her role as Maggie Horton was waiting for her and that her health was the top priority. Her character is so integral that the show confirmed, “Maggie and Suzanne are integral to the show’s history, present storylines, and now, on the heels of our pick-up, the future! Neither are going anywhere.”
A Supportive On-Screen Family
While she doesn’t have a large immediate family off-screen, Rogers found tremendous support during a recent health crisis from her on-screen “Days of Our Lives” family. In October 2025, she revealed she was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer and underwent six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy over the summer.
During this challenging time, she leaned heavily on her co-stars. She particularly highlighted Linsey Godfrey, who plays her on-screen daughter Sarah Horton, and Paul Telfer. “I had to have an infusion, and it takes about an hour and a half, so Linsey sat there with me and held my hand while I was having it,” Rogers shared. Other cast members like Mary Beth Evans, Stephen Nichols, Greg Rikaart, and AnnaLynne McCord also reached out with well-wishes, showing how the cast bonds like a real family.
