Surveillance footage captured a teenage suspect running from authorities after leaving his father’s pickup truck (KHOU). Inset features news images of the location where Willie Washington was discovered deceased in his residence on September 9 (KHOU).
A Texas teenager is the prime suspect in the brutal slaying of his own father, who was found dead in his home earlier this week.
The Pearland Police Department revealed through a Facebook statement on Tuesday that at approximately 6:30 a.m., they responded to Willie Washington’s home for a “death investigation.” Upon arrival, officers discovered Washington suffered “multiple stab wounds” and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Washington’s pickup truck was missing from his residence, prompting police to initiate a search. After a pursuit through Houston, police ultimately located the vehicle, identifying the driver as Washington’s 16-year-old son.
Pearland Police located Washington’s truck using a license plate reader system. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver reportedly fled, leading to a chase involving both the vehicle and the driver.
Footage from surveillance acquired by CBS station KHOU shows the truck skidding onto a grassy area before coming to a halt. The teenage suspect then exited the vehicle on foot, evading officers briefly until being caught and taken into custody. Police have yet to disclose the suspect’s identity.
Although specifics remain scarce, police mentioned in their Facebook post that there was sufficient evidence to establish probable cause for charging the teenager with aggravated assault against a family member using a deadly weapon. He is currently detained at the Brazoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
KHOU reported that another relative of Washington was the one who found him dead in his home on Tuesday. Pearland Police Public Information Officer Chad Rogers told reporters that the matter was being treated as a death investigation and is ongoing.
