16-year-old FaceTiming with friend shot in head by angry boyfriend, starts vomiting and spitting up blood while the pal watches in horror

A Connecticut teenager has been sentenced to prison for what prosecutors describe as an “attempted execution” of his 16-year-old girlfriend, whom he shot in the head during a FaceTime call with her friend. The shocking incident followed an argument between the couple, according to court documents.

Jayzon Gunter (Hartford Police Department).

Nineteen-year-old Jayzon Gunter will serve eight years behind bars after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree assault and attempted third-degree strangulation. This plea deal saw his initial charge of attempted murder reduced. Prosecutors had accused Gunter of trying to kill his girlfriend following a dispute over a call she made to his “baby’s mama,” as reported by the Hartford Courant.

The attack left the victim in a medically-induced coma. The shooting occurred in September 2024, with Gunter being 18 years old at the time of the crime.

During the incident, the girlfriend’s friend was on FaceTime with her and recorded the terrifying event on her cellphone. The video reportedly shows Gunter pointing a gun at his girlfriend’s head and firing a shot.

Another witness at the scene recounted hearing a “loud bang” and rushed to the room to find the victim bleeding from the head and spitting up blood, as detailed by the Courant. The victim was also vomiting blood when discovered.

A female witness who was at the residence where the shooting occurred reported hearing a “loud bang” before entering the room where the victim was and finding her spitting and vomiting up blood, the Courant reports. She was also bleeding from her head.

Another witness who spoke to police said Gunter wrapped a phone cord around his girlfriend’s neck and allegedly tried strangling her to death before the shooting.

While at the hospital, the girlfriend told a nurse that the man who shot her went by “Rich Rack,” which is an alias that Gunter uses, according to police. She also identified him by his first name.

Gunter was later found by police at another residence and arrested on an unrelated warrant. He admitted to being at the home where the shooting occurred but claimed he wasn’t involved and only heard a “shot” come from the bedroom.

In addition to prison time, Gunter was ordered to serve three years of probation. He will serve an additional 12 years behind bars if he violates his probation.
