Four Louisiana teens who were charged as adults in March’s deadly carjacking pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to second-degree murder.

On March 21, John Honore, 17, Briniyah Baker, 16, Lenyra Theophile, 15, and Mar’Qel Curtis, 15, allegedly assaulted Linda Frickey, 73, and pulled her out of her SUV before dragging her alongside her vehicle for a block. New Orleans police said Frickey’s arm was severed and she died from blunt force trauma, according to NOLA.com.

The teens reportedly drove off with Frickey’s car, but it was located five hours later. Most of the deadly carjacking was caught on camera, according to WVUE.

A day after the deadly incident, police announced that they had arrested four suspects. New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson revealed that two of the juveniles’ parents turned them in hours after they publicized surveillance footage showing the carjacking suspects.

In late April, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said they were charging Baker, Theophile, Curtis, and Honore as adults because none of them attempted to deescalate the March 21 incident that resulted in Frickey’s death.

The four teens remain jailed on $1 million bail. They are due back in court on June 3.
