At least nine people were killed in a massive head-on collision in Texas late Tuesday, including six students traveling in a bus carrying the University of the Southwest’s men’s and women’s golf teams, CNN reports.

According to the report, six of the nine people killed in the evening crash were students. The bus reportedly crashed head-on with a pickup truck.

“A Dodge 2500 pickup was traveling southbound on FM 1788. A Ford Transit passenger van registered to the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, NM was traveling northbound on FM 1788,” the Texas Department of Safety said in a statement obtained by CNN. The crash took place outside Andrews, Texas.

“For unknown reasons, the Dodge pickup drove into the northbound lane and struck the Ford passenger van head on,” DPS Sgt. Steven Blanco reportedly said. “Both vehicles caught fire and burned.

In addition to the six students, a University of Southwest faculty member was killed. Both the driver and the passenger in the pickup truck also died. It is unclear from the report if there were any additional passengers in the pickup truck.

Additionally, two of the bus passengers are in critical condition and undergoing lifesaving medical treatment.

The investigation is ongoing. CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
