In a shocking turn of events, the young man accused of a heinous crime involving the murder of a pregnant woman in Downers Grove and the subsequent arson of her home is back in custody. This follows an incident where he inflicted severe injuries upon himself while detained, according to officials.

Nineteen-year-old Nedas Revuckas, the suspect in this tragic case, reportedly attempted to harm himself while in custody on Thursday, just hours after appearing in court. The self-inflicted injuries were critical, prompting immediate medical attention.

By Sunday, Revuckas had been medically cleared by hospital staff and was subsequently returned to the DuPage County Correctional Facility, as confirmed by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.

Revuckas faces grave allegations, including the murder of 30-year-old Eliza Morales and her unborn child. The tragic event unfolded on a Monday night, with the perpetrator also accused of setting fire to Morales’ apartment.

The brutality of the attack is underscored by court documents, which reveal that Morales suffered 70 stab wounds. In a further act of violence, Revuckas is also accused of stabbing the family dog.

According to prosecutors, Revuckas has confessed to these chilling acts, suggesting that the motive was linked to a transaction involving a vehicle he intended to purchase from Morales’ husband through Facebook Marketplace.

According to detectives, the suspect stated that he was upset about the condition of the pickup truck and allegedly took out his frustrations on Morales.

Prosecutors said Morales told him she was pregnant during the attack. She was five months pregnant, due to give birth to her second daughter in March.

Neither Morales’ husband nor her daughter were home at the time.

Morales’ loved ones held a funeral service for her on Thursday.

Relatives say Morales worked in the payroll department at Lurie Children’s Hospital, and hoped to have more children with her husband, who was her high school sweetheart.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the victim’s family.

Revuckas was ordered detained pending his trail on Thursday morning, and he is due back in court on Feb. 18.
