Michael Simon Wilson, 36, was charged earlier this year with 45 offences related to the alleged possession of child abuse material, sexual offences including rape, and bestiality.
Police are investigating an incident on April 16, where a teenage boy was allegedly sexually assaulted in Coburg.
Wilson was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 15.
9News understands Wilson is known to former childcare worker Joshua Brown, 26, who has been accused of more than 70 child sex abuse charges in Melbourne childcare centres.
Wilson’s charges are not related to alleged offending in childcare centres, 9News understands.
The nature of Wilson’s connection to Brown is not yet known.
Brown’s charges relate to eight alleged victims police say were at Creative Gardens Early Learning Centre in Point Cook between April 2022 and January 2023.
Brown has remained in police custody since his arrest and will appear in court on September 15.
Wilson and Brown will be isolated from the general population at the Melbourne Assessment Prison until their next court appearances out of fears for their safety.
