Armed Gainesville Man Arrested in Domestic Injunction Violation

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 42-year-old Gainesville man, Reginald Tremaine Thomas, is facing multiple charges after police say he entered a domestic violence victim’s home with an old key while carrying a firearm, despite an active injunction barring contact with her.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, officers were called to the residence at about 12:42 a.m. on August 3. Investigators said Thomas allegedly let himself into the home using a previous house key and then moved toward the victim’s male friend while armed with what was described as a silver gun. The male friend reportedly fled through the back door. Police said the injunction in place prohibits Thomas from contacting the victim.

The victim told officers that Thomas did not aim the firearm at her, but instead walked past her in the direction of her male friend. The male friend was reportedly unwilling to cooperate with police and did not want to pursue charges.

One officer noted in the report that police had been called to the same address earlier that day, but Thomas had left the scene before officers arrived.

Thomas has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed trespassing, and violation of an injunction. Court and arrest records list six prior felony convictions, including one violent felony, along with four non-violent misdemeanor convictions. He previously served a state prison sentence and was released in 2008. Thomas is being held on $180,000 bail.

Reports on arrests are compiled from law enforcement records. Charges cited come from arrest reports and/or court filings and remain allegations. Every suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
