A mother who brought her 6-year-old son to a Florida park is facing a child neglect charge after authorities said the boy was found there by himself at night.
Elena Sexton, 41, a Texas native, was released on bond after being arrested Saturday on a child neglect charge. An arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime says officers were called to Town Center Park in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, at about 9 p.m. after a report of a young child without a parent or guardian nearby. The 911 caller told police the boy approached him and said he was “alone” and “scared” because his mother, later identified as Sexton, had “left him.”
Sexton returned to the park and was arrested by responding officers, police said.
Authorities also notified the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Sexton was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and later released after posting a $2,500 bond. Information about her next court appearance was not immediately available.
