A California man who was charged with murdering and dismembering his wife and in-laws in 2023 reportedly killed himself on Saturday.
According to sources who spoke with TMZ, Samuel Haskell IV was discovered hanging in his cell at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility. These sources also revealed that Haskell had attempted to take his own life by slitting his wrists two days before a scheduled preliminary hearing, which was to decide if he would face trial for the murders of his wife, Mei Haskell, 35, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang and Gaoshen Li.
In November 2023, dismembered body parts were discovered in plastic bags in a parking lot in Encino. This grim find was just five miles away from the family’s residence in Tarzana, with the bags positioned near a dumpster.

It is alleged that Samuel Haskell contracted four day laborers to dispose of the plastic bags at the parking lot, convincing them that the bags contained rocks. However, one of the laborers felt something unusual inside a bag, prompting him to open it and uncover the gruesome contents of body parts.
TMZ reported that the worker returned to Samuel Haskell’s home with the bags and dumped them in the driveway before refunding the money and calling 911. Video footage allegedly showed Samuel Haskell putting the bags in his vehicle and driving away.
According to the tabloid, Samuel Haskell was also filmed discarding something in a dumpster miles from his home. Shortly thereafter, a homeless man called 911 to report that he had opened one of the bags and discovered a severed torso.
A search of the family’s home reportedly uncovered blood and other evidence consistent with a murder and dismemberment. TMZ reported that the severed torso was identified as Mei Haskell — but her parents’ bodies were never found.
Samuel Haskell IV is the son of Sam Haskell, a former Hollywood agent who founded Magnolia Hill Productions. A motive in the slayings was not disclosed, but TMZ reported that the couple was having financial issues at the time of the slayings.
