The bodies of a missing California mother and her daughter have been found underwater in a San Joaquin County canal.
Fresno County police had reported that Whisper Owen, 36, and her 8-month-old daughter, Sandra McCarty, were last spotted leaving Fresno on July 15. The authorities suspect they were heading to their home in Elk Grove but they never made it.
According to People Magazine, on August 17, the Fresno Police Department confirmed the discovery of a submerged 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer in San Joaquin County, near Highway 120.
“We have been in discussions with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department regarding a search operation in a waterway at Highway 120 and Victory Road in San Joaquin County,” police officials stated.
The sheriff’s department affirmed that the missing person, Whisper Owen’s, 2006 Chevy Trailblazer has been found underwater at the stated location.
Additionally, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department reported that two bodies were discovered inside the vehicle. The identification of the deceased will be officially released by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office, who are in charge of investigating the retrieval of the bodies and Owen’s vehicle.
The discovery of the vehicle became possible after a search and recovery dive team, Adventures with a Purpose, “applied sonar technology to establish” where the vehicle was located, as shared by FOX 40.
Owen’s mother told ABC 30 that Owen took her daughter to a doctor’s appointment and visited family. They were supposed to then head home to her partner and two other children.
