A 15-month-old California infant is dead after overheating inside a vehicle Sunday in Alta Sierra.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office reported that first responders were called to a location off Ragan Way on Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:54 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive infant inside a vehicle.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to save the child, the infant did not survive. The Union notes that the victim’s identity has not been released as per the request of the sheriff’s office.
“This situation is incredibly sad for everyone involved, including the family and the first responders who attempted life-saving procedures,” stated Ashley Quadros, Administrative Analyst for the NCSO, as reported by the outlet.
So far, no charges have been filed. Officials are waiting for autopsy results.
Jan Null, CCM, a meteorology adjunct professor at San Jose State University, informed CrimeOnline via email that this marks the third Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke fatality in California this year and the 20th across the country. Last year, by August 4th, there had been 21 such tragedies.
