A 32-year-old man from California has been taken into custody, facing charges related to the murder of his half-brother and the attempted murder of the latter’s two children.
According to the Redlands Police Department, officers responded to a report of gunshots at an apartment on Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Aaron Richard Rivera had succumbed to gunshot injuries.
The alleged perpetrator fled the scene, leaving the stove’s gas burners on while Rivera’s children were asleep in the residence.
“Information from the family and evidence gathered pointed to the suspect being the victim’s half-brother, Zackary Aaron Brodowski,” police reported. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex captured Brodowski leaving shortly after the shooting in a silver 2008 Ford Focus.
Authorities later located Brodowski at his residence in Calimesa, where he was apprehended without resistance. Detectives also recovered a firearm thought to be the murder weapon, along with clothing that matched the attire seen on the surveillance video.
Brodowski is currently being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center.
