Men chased through backyards after alleged school pick-up carjacking fail
Two men hid in bushes after failing in an alleged attempt to carjack a father while he was picking up his daughter from a Melbourne school yesterday.

A 48-year-old father experienced a tense moment when he parked roughly 150 meters from the school entrance on Wellington Street in Kew around 4:30 pm. A white vehicle pulled up behind him, and two men emerged, brandishing a knife, as they allegedly demanded he surrender his Mercedes.

However, their audacious plan quickly unraveled when they proved unable to start the luxury vehicle.

The would-be thieves then fled towards Scott Street, hiding in bushes before a neighbour spotting them acting suspiciously several hours later.

Foiled, the would-be carjackers made their escape toward Scott Street, seeking cover in nearby bushes. Their suspicious behavior did not go unnoticed, as a vigilant neighbor spotted them and promptly contacted authorities via Triple Zero.

The police, with assistance from the Dog Squad and the Critical Incident Response Team, descended upon the tranquil Kew neighborhood shortly before 9 pm.

The chase led officers through various backyards as the suspects attempted to evade capture by leaping fences and scrambling across rooftops.

They tracked the pair through backyards as the alleged offenders jumped fences and scrambled across rooftops.

Police, including the Dog Squad, traced the pair through backyards and across roofs.

The pair will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

The victim, a 48-year-old Richmond man, was not physically injured in the incident.

The private girls’ school has sent a letter to parents about the incident.
