Surveillance footage showed Cavalcante climbing a wall in the exercise yard of the Chester County Prison until he disappeared.

Cavalcante was said to have used the same escape route as another inmate who was arrested after escaping from Chester County Prison.

Chester County Prison officials are bringing in security contractors to make permanent changes to the exercise yards and are reviewing procedures for both security measures and communication with nearby residents.

Lack of staffing in Chester County Prison has been suggested as a reason for the security lapses. Cavalcante has been convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The Chester County Prison escapee was captured by authorities after a two-week manhunt.

Thermal heat technology from an aircraft and a tactical unit dog were used to locate and subdue Cavalcante, CNBC reported.

Cavalcante was transported to a police barracks with minor injuries, including a dog bite. The arrest came after a burglary alarm went off in the search perimeter, and a heat signal was detected by a DEA aircraft.

Cavalcante resisted arrest but was taken into custody without further injuries. He will be taken to a state correctional institute to serve his life sentence, CNB added.
