In a tragic and shocking incident, a 65-year-old woman from Connecticut has been arrested following the fatal shooting of a man who was simply enjoying a movie with a young boy. The accused, Michelle Yeagher, is now facing serious charges, including murder, possession of a dangerous weapon, risk of injury to a child, and reckless endangerment, as per reports from WFSB.
The victim, identified by authorities as 39-year-old Andrew Michael Olson, tragically lost his life during this unexpected and violent incident. The shooting took place while he was watching a film with a 12-year-old boy, adding an even more distressing element to the situation.
According to the arrest warrant, Yeagher claimed self-defense, repeatedly telling officers that Olson “tried to kill me” before she shot him. When the police arrived at the scene shortly before midnight on Monday, they observed Yeagher in a state of partial undress and apparent intoxication. This added another layer of complexity to the already troubling scenario.
Officers discovered Yeagher in her bedroom but noted that she was unable to account for the whereabouts of the firearm used in the shooting, as reported by WVIT. Her inability to provide this crucial information has further complicated the investigation into the fatal event.
They found her in bed when they arrived, according to WVIT, and she couldn’t say where the gun used in the shooting was.
Police identified the victim as 39-year-old Andrew Michael Olson.
The 12-year-old told police that he and Olson were watching the movie “Toy Story” when Yeagher came in and opened fire, shooting Olson in the chest.
During another interview Tuesday morning, Yeagher told officers she was upset from dealing with several issues during the day and started drinking later that night. Olson and the child came over, she said, and she went to bed.
Later, she woke in a state of panic and retrieved her gun from a safe. The next thing she remembered was hearing Olson “in distress” and seeing him on the floor hurt.
Yeagher was ordered held on a $1 million bond and is due in court next on December 11.
Investigators have not described the relationship between Olson, Yeagher, and the young boy.
