The 56-year-old cybersecurity worker has been missing from his home in Kelvin Grove, in Brisbane’s inner north, since August 20.
Anthony Perrett, 38, and Billy Howard, 26, have been charged with torture and remanded in custody.
Perrett, who owns a building company, applied for bail in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today and was denied.
Perrett’s lawyer argued police evidence against his client was weak, and only relates to a booking.com confirmation and a text message he allegedly received from Howard, containing a picture of the victim with visible injuries.
Burow remains missing and the police investigation involves multiple crime scenes on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane.
The court was told police had discovered a mobile phone, zip ties, a firearm and a piece of paper with the victim’s parents’ address.
The court was also told Howard allegedly Facetimed his ex-partner as Burow was being beaten with weapons.
Telecommunications data allegedly shows the two accused and Burow travelling together between August 21 and August 26 as well as money transferred between Perrett and Howard’s bank accounts.
The pair are due to next face court on October 13.
