The trial against Kouri Richins, a Utah mother, continues as she faces accusations of murdering her husband, Eric Richins, by poisoning his Moscow Mule cocktail.
Richins, 35, is standing trial in Summit County, dealing with multiple charges, including serious allegations related to her husband’s death.
- Aggravated murder
- Attempted aggravated murder
- Insurance fraud
- Forgery
Prosecutors claim that in May 2023, Richins allegedly laced Eric’s drink with an “illicit” amount of fentanyl, reportedly over five times the lethal dosage.
A mother of three, Richins later published a children’s book titled “Are You with Me?” which tells the story of a father with angel wings watching over his son.
She also faces allegations of attempting to poison Eric before, specifically by contaminating his sandwich on Valentine’s Day 2022.
The defense argues there is uncertainty regarding how Eric consumed the drug, suggesting the investigators failed to thoroughly examine the cup for evidence.
The prosecution stated that Richins, who had been having an affair, had a $4 million debt and killed her husband to gain financial freedom.
Richins has pleaded not guilty. Check back for updates.
