A day care worker in Georgia is facing serious charges, including child abuse and aggravated battery, for a shocking incident involving a 1-year-old boy on his first day at the facility. The child was reportedly left with cuts and bruises, as stated by his father and local authorities.
“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” expressed Cory Weeks on Facebook on Thursday, in response to the reported incident at Little Blessings Child Care in Bainbridge. “This was his FIRST DAY!!!”
According to local CBS station WCTV, surveillance footage allegedly captures Yvette Thurston, 54, involved in an assault on Weeks’ son. The timing of the incident has not been specified, other than confirming it happened on the child’s first day at the daycare.
“This was a tragic incident affecting an innocent child,” Weeks stated. “Monday marked the first day our two boys started at Little Blessings (A CHURCH CHILDCARE FACILITY). I won’t go into the specifics of the event now; instead, I’ll let the image of our baby convey the severity.”
Weeks has accused Thurston and the daycare facility of being untruthful about the attack when questioned. Efforts by Law&Crime to contact the center, located in the Bainbridge Church of God in Decatur County, for their comments were unsuccessful on Monday.
Weeks said “questioning the incident was an inconvenience for the person in custody for the horrible acts she did,” as well as for a “pastor” who allegedly helps run the facility.
“We were told another child in [the victim’s] class did this type of damage with a plastic toy,” Weeks said on Facebook.
“This person is in custody due to the evidence through video surveillance that myself,” he alleged. “Nothing we saw was for the faint hearted, especially happening to such an innocent soul.”
Thurston faces charges of first-degree aggravated battery and three counts of first-degree child abuse. She was released on a $44,000 bond over the weekend, per WCTV.
“We trusted this facility to care and love our kids and on their FIRST DAY that was violated,” Weeks seethed. “There will be more coming from this and we will make sure nothing is ‘swept under the rug.'”
