Ivan Aldair Canchola-Garcia (La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office).
Ivan Aldair Canchola-Garcia, 28, is facing charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, stemming from an incident on May 15 in La Crosse, based on information from online court records. The accusations are detailed in a criminal complaint obtained by the local CBS and MyNetworkTV station, WKBT.
The complaint indicates that police responded to the scene at the ex-girlfriend’s home on 16th Street South, where they discovered her suffering from several stab wounds to the neck, armpit, and shoulder blade. Canchola-Garcia is accused of appearing at the scene in a mask and gloves before attacking her with a knife purchased from a nearby Walmart.
Surveillance footage captured Canchola-Garcia buying the knife at the retail store only hours before the attack, according to the complaint. Investigators reportedly used license plate readers and Walmart’s security videos to trace his presence at the store prior to the stabbing.
During the alleged assault, the victim was holding their 11-month-old daughter, who fortunately was unharmed in the incident.
When Canchola-Garcia allegedly attacked his ex, she was holding their 11-month-old daughter in her arms. The child was not hurt.
Police say Canchola-Garcia was caught on video getting rid of the knife, gloves and a mask at a Kwik Trip convenience store in the area. Officers recovered the evidence, according to the complaint.
After attacking the victim, Canchola-Garcia allegedly told a friend, “I did it. I did what I needed to do. I tried to kill her. I went for the neck.”
Canchola-Garcia was arrested and charged with domestic abuse and use of a dangerous weapon, in addition to attempted intentional homicide. Court records show that he was being held this week in La Crosse County on a $1 million bond.
