Two residents, a 69-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, were hospitalized with injuries to their hands and faces following a violent attack.
Police became aware of the suspects at around 2 a.m. today after attempting to stop a Haval SUV on Gwydir Highway. This vehicle had been reported stolen from a residence in Inverell, located on the same highway.
Despite efforts to halt the vehicle, the driver refused to stop, prompting police to initiate a pursuit. However, the chase was called off due to safety concerns.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., law enforcement responded to a call from a home on Merindah Avenue in Moree. The three residents of the home reported that a group of young individuals had forcibly entered their residence and issued threats.
Shortly after the initial encounter, the group returned, this time wearing masks and armed with bricks, which they hurled at the occupants, resulting in injuries to the two men.
A short time later, the group returned wearing masks and carrying bricks and began throwing them at the occupants, injuring the two men.
The group then took off in the allegedly stolen Haval SUV before police returned.
Both men were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable conditions.
Police have established a crime scene and are investigating.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Moree Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
