A former police captain from Texas is facing serious federal charges related to child sexual assault and pornography, casting a shadow over what was once a distinguished career in law enforcement.
Daryn Blake Edwards, a 59-year-old former captain with the Houston Police Department, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. With a service record spanning 32 years, Edwards made a court appearance last Friday to answer to these new federal accusations, as reported by Fox 26.
This development follows a previous arrest earlier this year at his residence in Galveston County. Initially apprehended on charges of possessing child pornography, Edwards faced additional accusations from League City Police, including aggravated sexual assault and the sexual performance of a child, according to KTRK.
In disturbing details revealed by KPRC through court documents, the victim disclosed that Edwards had subjected her to years of sexual abuse, beginning when she was in elementary school. The victim alleged that the assaults intensified over the last year, with Edwards reportedly raping her between 85 and 100 times.
The victim also recounted that Edwards had sent her sexually explicit images via social media and coerced her into sending similar photographs, sometimes even offering her money to do so. She complied, fearing his anger.
A particularly chilling aspect of the case involves Edwards allegedly saving these explicit images from the Snapchat app, which would notify the victim whenever he did so. He reportedly boasted about a secret photo album, threatening to “ruin her life” with its contents. Additionally, he is accused of using hidden cameras to capture images of the victim without her knowledge.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, Edwards is facing two counts of coercion and enticement of a minor. If convicted, he could receive up to life in prison.
In addition, he is facing two counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography. Those charges carry terms of 20 and 10 years, respectively.
Edwards could also be fined $250,000.
