Popular online cook and author Nagi Maehashi says she was upset to learn one of her recipes became “entangled in a tragic situation” after Erin Patterson told her triple-murder trial she used a beef Wellington recipe from the RecipeTin Eats cookbook for the fatal lunch.

On Monday, a jury found Patterson guilty of murdering her in-laws Don and Gail Patterson and Heather Wilkinson and attempting to murder Wilkinson’s husband Ian after a marathon Supreme Court trial in regional Victoria.

The 50-year-old had pleaded not guilty to all charges and has 28 days to lodge an appeal from her sentencing.

With strong media interest in the case, the RecipeTin Eats founder requested journalists to “please stop calling and emailing and texting and DM-ing me about the Erin Patterson case”.

“It is of course upsetting to learn that one of my recipes, possibly the one I’ve spent more hours perfecting that any other, something I created to bring joy and happiness, is entangled in a tragic situation,” Maehashi said in an Instagram post yesterday.

“Other than that, I have nothing to say and I won’t be talking to anyone.

“Thank you for respecting my privacy.”

Patterson said during the trial she made multiple changes to the RecipeTin Eats recipe, which she used to prepare the beef Wellington lunch in July 2023.

This included buying 10 beef tenderloin steaks to make individual parcels after being unable to find a log of beef, swapping in filo pastry instead of making a crepe and omitting mustard and prosciutto because Ian didn’t eat pork.

The court heard Don and Gail Patterson and Heather and Ian Wilkinson became ill after consuming poisonous death cap mushrooms included in the meal.

The Pattersons and Heather Wilkinson died, while Ian recovered after a lengthy stay in hospital.

Bellamy, behind the Bake with Brooki account and cookbook, denied the allegation.
