Three University of South Alabama students face federal charges after allegedly posting online threats against President Donald Trump before his rally at the Mobile campus. Court documents quote the students as writing phrases including “he gotta die bro” and “we only got one chance let’s take it.”

Amare Jemal Woods, Cameron Lamark Lewis and Kayla Leaann Smith were taken into federal custody Friday after the FBI investigated a series of social media posts made before Trump’s scheduled appearance at the university’s Mitchell Center. Each student is charged with threatening the president.

The alleged threats were posted separately, according to probable cause affidavits filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

In one X post, Lewis allegedly wrote, “N—s gon remember the University of South Alabama the same way they remember Utah Valley University,” a reference to Utah Valley University, where Charlie Kirk was shot and killed.

Lewis allegedly made another post stating, “IF YALL CAN **** Q50 YOU CAN **** THAT N—.” The affidavit said the reference was to the “ambush shooting death of rapper Mikquale Cooper, also known as ‘Bloodhound Q50,’ in Chicago.”

Woods allegedly posted the comment “He gotta die bro” on TikTok Sept. 29 in response to a video about Trump’s planned visit to the South Alabama campus.

Smith also allegedly used TikTok to write, “We only got one chance let’s take it.” The post included an image the FBI described as showing an individual mimicking the act of holding a firearm, according to the affidavit.

Smith was reportedly responding to a Sept. 29 TikTok post that read, “pov: when I overhead everybody at south alabama talking about trump coming to our homecoming.”

The University of South Alabama issued the following statement to AL.com on Friday evening:

“The University of South Alabama unequivocally condemns any form of threats directed at elected officials or any individual with whom we disagree.”

“We encourage open dialogue and active civic participation, and having a difference of opinion is a natural part of any vibrant community. However, there is a clear line between exercising free expression and engaging in intimidation or unlawful conduct.”

According to the FBI, Woods is a freshman aerospace engineering student. Lewis is studying biology and works as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens, while Smith is pursuing a degree in elementary education.

Jason Darley, Woods’ attorney, told AL.com that his client is a “diminutive kid” and “the furthest away from any defendant I’ve ever represented in federal court in 21 years,” the outlet reported.

“It’s unfortunate because he’s a very young, very small kid and he’s sitting in federal court,” Darley said.

Attorneys representing Lewis and Smith had not responded to AL.com’s requests for comment, according to the outlet.
