A Florida resident is facing serious charges after allegedly making threats against Governor Ron DeSantis and the head of the United States Secret Service. The threats, which were reportedly made in a series of posts on the social media platform X, included a chilling message that read, “Don’t worry, you will die, pig.”
Authorities have charged 39-year-old Daniel Joseph Cook with making written threats to kill, threatening a law enforcement officer, and unlawfully using a two-way communication device. The case came to light on November 7 when the New York Attorney General’s Office informed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement about a concerning post made by the user @D13Xiii, which allegedly targeted Governor DeSantis, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit.
The incendiary post reportedly addressed DeSantis directly, stating, “Hey prick @GovRonDeSantis. You are both a bozo and a Bonzo. And miss Attorney General Pam Bondi will kill you in court. While I laugh. F— you, Ron DeSantis, Omerta, I will kill you. Don’t worry, you will die, pig.”
Further investigation into the account revealed additional threatening messages. One such post accused Governor DeSantis of enacting legislation that purportedly allowed for the arrest or “elimination” of anyone named Daniel Joseph Cook.
The post expressed Cook’s outrage, saying, “You f— my reputation, while simultaneously being a prick in such ways as to make a targeted law with my name on it.”
Identifying Cook proved to be straightforward for authorities, as a post from July included a photograph of his birth certificate. Law enforcement tracked him down to his residence in Edgewater, where they conducted an interview. During the interview, Cook confessed to authoring the posts, according to police reports.
But Cook was apparently not done issuing threats. On Dec. 31, he allegedly turned his ire toward Sean Curran, the director of the Secret Service.
“I’ll kill you,” he allegedly wrote. “Mark my words. You c— butch. F— you die.”
Cops arrested Cook on Monday. He is in the Volusia County Jail without bond. He’s slated to appear in court on Thursday.
