A Florida man was taken into custody on Friday after a 3-month-old infant was hospitalized with serious injuries, which included both fresh and healed rib fractures, a healed fracture in the leg, and stress fractures in the upper arm.
The infant was initially brought to HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital on March 29 and later moved to St. Mary’s Medical Center for additional medical care, according to a report by WFLA.
But James Longendyck, 33, wasn’t arrested until Friday, when he was charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.
“Inflicting harm on a defenseless child is absolutely unacceptable,” stated Sheriff Richard Del Toro. “Anyone who mistreats a child or targets the most vulnerable in St. Lucie County will face justice. Our officers will locate, arrest, and ensure you encounter the full extent of the law.”
Longendyck was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Further details on the child’s condition were not provided.
