The family of Chloe Paul, a photographer and mother of three, recounted to 9News the harrowing incident when Dr. Steven Lin invaded her Potts Point home, demanding money. Chloe, who was working from home at the time, faced a terrifying ordeal as Lin forced his way into her unit.
According to her family, Lin attacked Chloe, pinning her to the ground and attempting to choke her. However, Chloe’s boxing experience proved invaluable as she managed to escape his grasp and alert the police. Despite her bravery, she sustained injuries and underwent surgery for a broken nose inflicted during the assault.
Adding to the chaos, Lin, apparently under the influence of drugs, also attacked a neighbor in the building’s shared laundry room. His access to the secure complex was gained by slipping in as another vehicle exited.
The situation escalated further when police officers arrived at the scene. Lin, wielding a knife, lunged at the officers, prompting them to subdue him with a Taser. The incident has left the community shaken, highlighting the unexpected dangers that can disrupt the safety of one’s home.
He gained access to the building by driving into the secure complex as another car left.
Officers claim that when they confronted him, he lunged at police with a knife, resulting in a Taser being deployed.
Police claim the Taser was “ineffective”, and a single round was fired at the 41-year-old.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed Lin barricaded himself inside one of the apartments during the 10-minute ordeal and did not know either of the victims.
In recent years, the author faced court for a raft of offences against women, including stalking, assaults, choking and breaching apprehended violence orders.
A critical incident has since been declared to investigate the actions of the officers.
