A former Liberal MP has admitted to potentially requesting a kiss from a teenage boy prior to engaging in sexual activities in a shared parking lot restroom.
Rory Amon, now 36, took the stand once more to address multiple child sex allegations connected to incidents involving the teenager in 2017.
The boy, aged 13 at the time, reportedly encountered the aspiring politician via a gay dating app before the alleged rape and abuse occurred.
In his testimony to a NSW Supreme Court jury, Amon recounted meeting the boy outside an apartment complex, leading to the events in the underground car park’s bathroom.
While uncertain about the exact sequence of events that followed, Amon mentioned that it was likely he would have asked the boy for a kiss.
“Typically, I would request permission to kiss someone before doing so,” he explained.
His barrister, Matthew Johnston SC, repeated evidence that the now 22-year-old complainant gave earlier in the trial about what happened between the pair.
The man said Amon had guided his hand to his genitals before they went on to have oral sex.
“I don’t dispute that,” the former MP said today.
However, Amon denied allegations that he visited the teen’s home a second time where the then-boy says further sexual acts took place.
On this occasion, Amon allegedly brought a towel which he placed on the floor of the bathroom.
The jury was taken through bank statements, text messages and toll records from the weekend of July 22, 2017, as the jury was shown Amon’s busy schedule.
On the day he admitted meeting the teen, the former MP said he earlier refereed two rugby matches in Canberra.
At the time of contacting the youth, Amon was working full-time for the federal MP for Mackellar, Jason Falinski.
He would go on to serve two terms on the Northern Beaches Council before being elected as the Liberal MP for the state seat of Pittwater in 2023.
In 2022, he reconnected with the alleged victim on Grindr, sending him a number of messages including a photograph of himself wearing volunteer firefighter attire.
The former MP has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges including five counts of having sexual intercourse with a child and two counts of attempted sexual intercourse with a child.
He also denies indecent assault charges.
