Inset: Angelynn Mock (Sedgwick County Jail). Background: Cops in Wichita, Kansas, investigate after Mock allegedly murdered her mother (KAKE).
A 47-year-old former television news presenter is accused of fatally stabbing her 80-year-old mother in their Kansas residence. The woman, identified as Angelynn Mock, reportedly contacted the police, claiming the act was in self-defense.
Facing a first-degree murder charge, Mock is implicated in the death of Anita Avers, as confirmed by Wichita law enforcement in a press release. Authorities responded to an emergency call just before 8 a.m. on Friday at a home located in the 1500 block of East Crowley. Officers found Mock outside the residence upon arrival. Inside, they discovered Avers unresponsive on her bed with numerous stab injuries. She was transported to a hospital, where she was declared deceased by medical staff.
After being detained, Mock was taken to a hospital and is currently held at Sedgwick County Jail with a bond set at $1 million.
The local ABC affiliate KAKE obtained and released audio from the 911 dispatch, revealing that Mock claimed she acted to protect herself.
“The caller reported stabbing her mother to defend herself,” the dispatch audio conveyed.
KAKE also interviewed a neighbor, who recounted that Mock approached her and her boyfriend in a frantic manner while they were sitting in their car.
“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Alyssa Castro told the TV station.
Mock begged Castro’s boyfriend for his phone to call 911. When he gave it to her, she ran back into the home, Castro said.
“I asked her if she was OK, and she was pretty shaken up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off,” stated Castro.
Per local CBS affiliate KMOV, Mock was a former morning anchor for Fox 2 news in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015.
Avers was a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist with some 20 years of experience, according to Wichita Counseling Professionals.
“She specializes in treating adults experiencing depression, anxiety spectrum disorders, trauma, and mood disorders, as well as relationship issues, including couples and marriages, family conflict, infidelity and divorce,” her biography said.
