The dramatic moment a worker was pushed from his own car as he tried to stop a thief in Adelaide’s north-west has been caught on camera.
A 56-year-old Port Adelaide man is facing multiple charges over the incident, including acts to endanger life and assaulting an emergency worker.Â
The alleged offender is accused of stealing a work ute from Athol Park yesterday afternoon.
The incident unfolded at about 3:30pm yesterday when Sanjay Reddy, the owner of the ute, briefly entered a business.Â
“I left the key on the driver’s seat,” he said.Â
When he noticed his ute being driven away, Reddy tried to intervene.
“When I grabbed the door, I asked him ‘what are you doing?’ and then he said ‘f— off”,” Reddy said.
“Then I realise that he is stealing my car… so then I tried to grab him.”
CCTV footage reportedly shows a man wandering through the Athol Park business hub minutes before the incident.
Police were able to track the alleged offender to Port Adelaide with the assistance of a police helicopter.Â
During the arrest, the man allegedly assaulted an officer while attempting to flee.
Reddy sustained injuries to his back and hand during the incident in Athol Park.Â
“I was lucky he didn’t drive over me,” he said.Â
