Gabby Petito’s parents tweeted memories of their daughter Thursday, their first Thanksgiving since she was murdered while on a cross-country trip with her boyfriend.
Gabby will forever remind me to be grateful for every moment, every breath, and every memory. I will cherish what I’ve had, and have in the present, always. Live with love, laughter and gratitude. https://t.co/UsxQItSvsy

Nichole Schmidt, Petito’s mother, included a link to the Gabby Petito Foundation’s Instagram page with her tweet, which said that her daughter “will forever remind me to be grateful for every moment, every breath, and every memory.”
Joe Petito, the 22-year-old’s father, tweeted that his daughter “should be with us but now all we have are the pictures.”
Thanksgiving, a day for being thankful, thoughtful, and giving. Hug your family and friends. Be thankful for the time you get to spend with them all. We miss you #Gabbypetito You should be with us but now all we have are the pictures. #family #friends #HappyThanksgiving

Gabby’s stepfather, Nichole Schmidt’s husband Jim Schmidt, also tweeted on Thanksgiving, poignantly noting that he’d also lost his mother and grandmother in the past year.
Went to visit mom today. Our first thanksgiving without her, grandma, and Gabby.I miss you all immensely. I know you are all together watching over us. Life is truly a gift and love every minute of it. Be present in every moment with your family, and live life to the fullest. pic.twitter.com/L60sIFTQd4

“I know you are all together watching over us,” he wrote. “Life is truly a gift and love every minute of it. Be present in every moment with your family, and live life to the fullest.”
Gabby Petito was found dead at a remote Wyoming campsite on September 19, more than a week after she’d been reported missing and nearly three weeks after her boyfriend Brian Laundrie had returned home from their trip without her. By the time Petito’s body was found, Laundrie was also missing, having fled his parents home rather than speak with investigators about his girlfriend’s disappearance.
His body was found on October 20 in a Florida nature preserve that had been underwater when the search began days after he ran away. This week, investigators announced that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
