Gainesville Man Arrested After Throwing Blade at Housemate

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bruce Randal Davis, 62, was arrested early this morning after authorities said he threw a spear-tip blade at a housemate.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s deputy was called to a home in Arredondo Estates at approximately 11:37 p.m. on October 18. Four people were in the front yard when the deputy arrived, and all reportedly lived at the residence.

Davis reportedly told the deputy he had been involved in an argument with the victim. The victim, meanwhile, said Davis threw a knife at him and threatened to kill him. He also told authorities he wanted to press charges.

The deputy separated the individuals and placed Davis in handcuffs after he reportedly declined to answer questions. Davis was then secured in a patrol vehicle.

According to the victim, Davis was intoxicated and had been causing a disturbance inside the home. During the confrontation, the victim said, Davis threatened to kill him before throwing a knife that struck and became lodged in a floorboard near his feet.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Davis reportedly agreed to speak with the deputy. He acknowledged arguing with the victim but denied throwing a knife. When asked about bladed objects, Davis described a spear-tip blade he was using to build an antique weapon and gave the deputy permission to enter his bedroom and retrieve it.

The deputy reportedly discovered a spear-tip blade embedded in the staircase leading down into the room. The location was consistent with the victim’s account, and the victim identified the blade as the weapon Davis allegedly threw.

Davis faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His criminal record includes nine felony convictions, two of them violent, along with three misdemeanor convictions, including two classified as violent. He has served three state prison sentences and was most recently released in 2021. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $20,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
