Gainesville Resident Detained After Allegedly Striking Victim with Vehicle Following Gun Threat

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anquitte Latifah Quinn, 35, has been taken into custody following a disturbing incident where she allegedly pursued another woman to her residence, brandished a firearm at her, and subsequently struck her with a vehicle.

Authorities from the Gainesville Police Department were alerted at approximately 9:33 p.m. on December 2, responding to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a car. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from significant injuries.

A witness recounted to officers that she was present with the victim outside the latter’s residence when Quinn arrived, instigating a dispute. The witness claimed that Quinn pointed a pistol at the victim and threatened, “I’m going to shoot you in the <expletive> face!” while holding the weapon within close range.

According to the witness, Quinn and the victim agreed to relocate their altercation due to Quinn’s concern about being ambushed. As the victim proceeded along the 1200 block of SW 16th Avenue, Quinn followed in her vehicle, and the two exchanged heated words. Suddenly, Quinn accelerated towards the victim, who attempted to evade the oncoming car but was unable to do so. The impact left the victim clinging to the vehicle, while Quinn reportedly sped away with the victim hanging onto the side.

The victim reported that Quinn abruptly braked a short distance later, causing her to fall onto the pavement. She further disclosed that this was not Quinn’s first act of aggression and threats towards her. The attending officer assessed that Quinn’s persistent behavior, which included trailing the victim and brandishing a firearm, culminated in vehicular assault, thus illustrating a pattern of harassment aimed at the victim without any justifiable cause. The officer emphasized that Quinn’s actions not only pose a credible threat but have already inflicted severe harm on the victim.

The witness reportedly provided video showing Quinn pointing a pistol at the victim, and she also provided video of Quinn following the victim in her car.

Post Miranda, Quinn reportedly acknowledged that she had been at the victim’s house and confirmed that the two have been engaged in an ongoing dispute. She said she did not intentionally hit the victim with her car but said the victim “jumped into her car and held onto the side of the car.” Quinn reportedly denied ever having a gun during the incident and told an officer that her pistol was locked up at her home, but the officer reported that a pistol could be seen in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard of Quinn’s car.

Quinn has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated stalking with a credible threat. She has one non-violent misdemeanor conviction. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
