GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, authorities took 35-year-old Jasamine Lashae McCrea into custody following an alleged altercation with an officer. The incident began when an officer requested McCrea to exit a vehicle and provide identification during an investigation into a reported brawl.

At approximately 2:07 a.m. on June 3, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to a shopping plaza located at 2028 SW 34th Street after receiving a call about a fight between two women. Upon arrival, they encountered a substantial crowd gathered around the two women, who were engaged in a heated verbal exchange.

One of the women involved in the altercation identified McCrea as the other participant. An officer then informed McCrea that she was being detained as part of the investigation into the disturbance, advising her that she was not free to leave. Despite this, McCrea allegedly refused to provide her identity and repeatedly used profanities directed at the officers.

The officer noted that after stepping away briefly to speak with the other woman involved, McCrea relocated to the front passenger seat of a nearby vehicle. She reportedly ignored repeated commands to exit the vehicle and disclose her identity. With the car door open, she allegedly gestured dismissively at the officers, indicating her intention to leave, and attempted to shut the car door.

The officer intervened, preventing the door from closing, at which point McCrea allegedly sprang from her seat, shouting obscenities and grabbing the officer’s vest before pushing him. Additional officers were called to assist in restraining McCrea, during which she reportedly continued to shout threats peppered with expletives.

At least one other officer witnessed McCrea grabbing the officer.

McCrea has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, a felony. She has three misdemeanor convictions (one violent), and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her released on her own recognizance with a curfew between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
